In 2011 and again in 2014, the Barito River Initiative for Nature Conservation and Communities (BRINCC) undertook expeditions to the remote corner of the Murung Raya region in the Heart of Borneo, to increase knowledge of the wildlife and the communities living there, and to better understand the challenges its conservation faces. This event will present these challenges for discussion and give a flavor of life on a jungle expedition. What People Will Learn:-Primary conservation issues in Indonesia.-Jungle life whilst mosquito-swatting. -What steps we can take to change the trajectory of exploitative development in Indonesia. About the speaker:Wildlife researcher by training, Mike has spent 15 years working on conservation issues in Europe, Africa, Latin America, and Asia. He first came to Indonesia in 2008, to research wild orangutan behavior in Sebangau National Park and ultimately co-led a research expedition to the Murung Raya in 2011, establishing BRINCC with others. Ultimately he stayed in Indonesia since 2011 having worked for London Zoo in Java, and now working for Daemeter focusing on overcoming sustainability issues in the oil palm industry, and implementing innovative landscape approaches to conservation.http://www.brinccborneo.org/ http://daemeter.org/ #### Event Registration Instructions ####——————————————-This event is for free and open to public.
