e-Commerce Fuck Ups

Skill Level: All Level

Three Professionals, Three Stories on How They Fucked it Up

Failures shouldn’t be kept as secret: it must be shared proudly so others can learn from it. Nowadays when everything is online-based, e-Commerce has been growing at an unprecedented rate all over the globe. But do you know how to done it correctly?Three e-Commerce professionals, Michelle (MKW Graphics), Samantha (FEZ.Com) and Kirk Skinner will share their fail e-Commerce stories in the past: what they did wrong, how they overcame the mess and alter it into the success that they have right now.

About The Speakers
Michelle Wintersteen is coming from three generation of female-owned small businesses, you could say that entrepreneurship runs in her blood. As a Visual Arts and Art History double major, she loves blending art, travel, history and culture with business goals to ensure that a small business crafts a lasting brand identity. She believes in creating designs that are unique but functional, appealing to a small biz’s ideal client while representing products and services that resonate with communities.

Samantha James is founder of FEZ.COM, an e-commerce vaporizer company founded in 2015 that sells smoking accessories. Given the nature of the business, FEZ is prohibited from advertising on Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, Google Adwords, and prohibited from using Shopify, Stripe and PayPal as payment services. Despite these obstacles, FEZ managed to create a 20% sales conversion rate from all visitors to their site through content marketing and social media engagement.

Kirk Skinner grew up in Australia and enjoyed a lot of Australian activities such as surfing and football. After getting good grades at school he got an engineering scholarship and worked at a steelworks for 8 years. Realising he was too young to just do this forever he quit and started to travel the world. Along these travels he met a digital nomad who showed him the online world and consequently altered his life direction. From here he has created 3 e-commerce businesses, managed 10 virtual staff and more recently started a marketing agency specialising in helping influencers monetise their followings.
