This meetup is for all Dojo developers to talk some dirty tech talk and meet each other.
Building PWA’s with React. A Progressive Web App (PWA) allows developers to deliver a native-like experience on the web, including things like add to home screen, push notifications and offline support. We will get into what makes a web application a PWA and see how to implement a PWA with React.
The average smartphone user installs zero apps per month. Users either don’t want to or don’t have to install an app because most of the apps they already have are suitable for most of their daily tasks. Most app’s on the app store are essentially free, however, in developing countries, the cost of installing an application can be quite high and it is hard to convince someone to download and install an app without the user having knowledge if the app is really valuable for him or not. In comparison, the average user visits up to 100 pages per month.
The web is one of the best distribution systems out there. A user only has to know the URL of a given page and he can immediately start using the app without installing extra software, except for the browser. Developers can write truly cross-platform applications, you only have to write your code once and it is distributed and can run across all devices that are capable to run a web browser. Given the high usage, it should come naturally that we should invest into making sure the user has a good user experience on the web and with progressive web apps, we are able to provide the user native-like experiences on the web.
