React Native is a mobile app development framework created by Facebook. Based on the popular React web development framework, it allows you to develop mobile apps in Javascript that target multiple platforms (i.e., iOS, Android & Windows Phone). This event will give you short introduction to the framework, talk about its pro’s and con’s compared to native development and show what the development experience is like.
Unlike other middleware solutions such as PhoneGap, it renders to your app in native components, meaning that an app built in React Native should look and feel indistinguishable from an actual native app, without having to learn different programming languages and frameworks. Moreover, you can reuse a lot of code when you’re also developing a web app in React.
What You Will Learn:
– What React Native is
– What you can do with it
– What the limitations are
– What the development experience is like
About the speaker:
Corné Driesprong is a land-dwelling mammal who builds iOS apps in exchange for money. He holds a liberal arts degree, but after realizing that being able to lecture at length about Kantian metaphysics is a skill which is difficult to monetize, he taught himself how to code instead. After learning the ropes in a succession of jobs, he’s been freelancing since the beginning of this year. Besides coding, he’s into music, yoga, green tea and Kantian metaphysics. He can usually be found in Amsterdam but has now escaped the Dutch rain and cold to hang out on sunny Bali for a while.
